JUST IN: Patrick Mahomes encourages literacy at 15 and the Mahomies Foundation reading rally..see full details

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Local students got the chance to read alongside Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during a special event aimed at promoting literacy.
“Reading is in every aspect of life,” Mahomes said. “If you’re a quarterback, if you’re a doctor, whatever your dream is, you’re going to have to read.”
Mahomes joined students Monday at the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Reading Rally, where he celebrated their progress in developing a daily reading habit.
The event recognized 3,000 students who have been consistently meeting their goal of reading at least 15 minutes a day.
Studies show that children who are not reading proficiently by third grade are significantly more likely to drop out of high school.
The 15 and the Mahomies Foundation partnered with KMBC 9 Cares for Kids and the Lead to Read program to host the rally and promote the importance of early literacy.
